Bhartiya Bhatke Vimukta Vikas va Sanshodhan Sanstha (BVS, Satara)began its operations in 1983 and was registered as a trust in 1984. The main objective of BVS is to promote the development of neglected, deprived, primitive, denotified, and nomadic tribes in India, particularly in Maharashtra. The BVS trust manages eight ashram schools, a social work college offering postgraduate courses, two family counselling centres (FCC), and VIHAN centres in different regions of Maharashtra state.
The main aim behind establishing the BVS Trust is to uplift the deprived tribes of the country by providing them with quality education. In all of the educational institutes managed under the BVS Trust, students from deprived and denotified tribal communities are given free, high-quality education. Students in primary school receive all means of daily life on the campus itself. Students are provided with daily nutritious meals and snacks, along with healthy playtime and education. They receive training on everything from basic daily hygiene and sanitary requirements to lifestyle development skills. From primary education to post-graduation studies, all courses and educational facilities are available for students of BVS-managed schools and colleges, in addition, a unit under BVS provides guidance and education to willing students to prepare for MPSC and UPSC competitive examinations held by Maharashtra state and the central government, respectively. Along with providing education, our trust works in various sectors to ensure the complete development and upliftment of these children. We provide vocational training to all our students
To help them earn a decent livelihood and become self-sustainable citizens. Students on our campus are given training and awareness about their legal rights and basic human rights as per the constitution of our nation so that they become informed and aware citizens of the nation..
Our institute has routinely conducted various research projects, seminars, and workshops to highlight the plight of tribals and find tangible solutions towards their upliftment. The scope and work of the BVS Trust are not just limited to one particular direction or section but have a wide approach towards the upliftment and complete development of society..
In addition to working for tribal upliftment, we routinely address issues such as poverty, gender discrimination, societal well-being, cleanliness and sanitation, the availability of sustainable and clean energy to society, entrepreneurship and life skill development, working to improve climate and the environment, establishing justice in society, addressing malnutrition and infant mortality, and, most importantly, establishing peace. In adherence to this vision, the Yashwantrao Chavan School of Social Work (YCSSW) was set up in 1994 to train students in professional social work. The institute today offers courses in social studies up to post-graduation. The school is inspired by the work of Yashwantrao Chavan, who was a visionary and architect of modern Maharashtra and who had the vision to spread unity and equality in the nation. He was a leader of the cooperative movement, a social activist, and a writer. He advocated socialist democracy in his speeches and articles and was instrumental in setting up cooperatives in Maharashtra for the betterment of farmers. .
During the COVID-19 global pandemic and severe flood crisis in 2021, many alumni from the BVS Trust’s schools and colleges came forward and heartily donated huge relief support and aid to help citizens in times of crisis. This shows how fundamental and instrumental the work of the BVS Trust has been pivotal in establishing and uplifting students from denotified and deprived tribal communities. To eliminate all forms of discrimination in society, including those based on race, religion, creed, caste, region, language, gender, age,and physical appearance; to alleviate suffering among all members of society; and to promote happiness and fulfillment for everyone.
